MBALE CITY
Police in the Elgon Region have launched a manhunt for a motorist following a horrific Sunday evening accident that claimed the lives of three people along the Mbale-Soroti highway.
The incident occurred at approximately 6:00 PM on January 25, 2026, at Nakaloke, directly opposite Ideal Girls High School.
According to Elgon Region Police Spokesperson, Rogers Taitika, the accident involved a black Toyota Mark X (registration UBR 123R) and a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle.
Preliminary investigations suggest that both the vehicle and the motorcycle were traveling in the same direction toward Nakaloke trading center.
“The driver of the Toyota Mark X, who was traveling at an excessive speed, lost control of the vehicle,” Taitika stated. “The car plowed into the motorcycle and a pedestrian, killing all three individuals instantly.”
Police have identified the deceased as Hayongo Juma: The rider of the Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, Hamba Nasuru a 48-year-old male resident of Nakaloke, who was a passenger on the motorcycle and a one Zakia, an adult female pedestrian and resident of Nakaloke.
Taitika says the driver of the Toyota Mark X fled the scene immediately after the collision and remains at large. Police are currently working to track his whereabouts.
The bodies of the three victims were conveyed to the Mbale City mortuary for examination.
Both the Toyota Mark X and the motorcycle have been towed to the police station pending inspection by the Inspectorate of Vehicles (IOV).
