Government Chief Whip, Hamson Obua has conceded defeat in the Ajuri County Member of Parliament election.

Obua on Tuesday, 27th January, 2026 lost to the Uganda People’s Congress candidates, Fred Jalameso.

In the partial re-run of 18 polling stations ordered by court, Jalameso got 16,336 votes to beat Obua who got 15,568 votes.

In a statement today Wednesday morning, Obua said he accepts the outcome of the partial re-run and consequently congratulated Jalameso for the win.

He expressed gratitude to residents of Ajuri County for the trust they had placed in him to represent them in parliament over the years.

Although his parliamentary tenure has ended, Obua said he remains active in public service and party leadership, pledging continued support to Northern Uganda, the Lango sub-region and the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) where he serves as the Vice Chairperson for Northern Uganda.

Obua now joins a list of other seasoned politicians who have not survived the wave of electorates in the 2026 general elections.
