Health authorities have revealed that the two Bugisu Sub-gion districts of Bulambuli and Sironko are now experiencing a measles outbreak, with six people currently admitted.
This was revealed by Martin Naimu, the acting Bulambuli district health officer, in an exclusive interview with our reporter today, Wednesday, 28th January, 2026.
According to Naimu, they have recorded five cases in Buyaga town council, Buwanyanga sub-county in Bulambuli district, and one case in neighboring Bukise sub-county in Sironko district.
He says they received 10 suspected cases and sent samples to the Entebbe Virus Institute, which confirmed six positive results, while four were negative.
The acting DHO says the patients are currently receiving treatment at Muyembe Health Centre IV and other private clinics in Buyaga town council.
He adds that they have also identified other suspected cases in Lusha sub-county and Bulambuli town council, among others.
The Resident District Commissioner of Bulambuli, George Magunda urged the public to consider precautions which health personnel are giving them to avoid further spread of the disease.
Measles is a highly contagious viral disease caused by the measles virus. Its transmitted from one person to another through direct contact with an infected person’s respiratory droplets (e.g., coughing, sneezing), touching contaminated surfaces or objects, Airborne transmission (less common).
Signs and Symptoms are Fever, Cough, Runny nose, Red eyes (conjunctivitis), Rash (red, blotchy spots) on the face, neck, and chest, Koplik spots (small white spots inside the mouth), Loss of appetite and Fatigue.
