KAMPALA
Ugandan musician and NUP candidate Ali Buken, known as Nubian Li, has won the Nakawa Division mayoral race with 19,121 votes, defeating incumbent Paul Mugambe’s 14,125 and NRM’s Susan Zawedde’s 11,873.
The tally stretched almost two days amid low turnout and logistical delays across Kampala’s local polls ending with the declaration in the wee hours of Thursday morning, 29th January, 2026.
A close ally of Bobi Wine, Nubian Li pledged integrity and collaboration with residents, as Leader of the Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi joined celebrations under NUP flags.
His victory strengthens opposition presence in the bustling urban division, where locals hope for better infrastructure and youth opportunities over the next five years.
