Abdulhafidh Nagaya the incoming Jinja City Mayor-elect has dismissed allegations of election rigging in the recently concluded local government elections.
Nagaya polled 17,266 votes to defeat opposition National Unity Platform’s candidate Mubarak Kirunda, with 15,783 votes.
While speaking to the press on Wednesday 28th January 2026, Nagaya said his leadership would focus on socioeconomic transformation, improved healthcare, education and inclusive urban development.
He outlined plans to revive Jinja’s industrial base, starting with the former industrial areas of Kazimingi and Bugembe, which he said would be transformed into small-scale manufacturing parks and vocational training centers as this would create opportunities for artisans, mechanics and skilled workers to improve their livelihood.
He has pledged to promote vocational training, cottage industries and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises as tools to fight unemployment among youths.
In healthcare he revealed that plans were underway to expand and refurbish children’s wards in city hospitals to ensure access to quality care with emphasis on sickle cell disease.
