The Forum for Democratic Change, (FDC) has broken silence over the recent defection of its Chief Whip, Hon Yusuf Nsibambi to the National Resistance Movement Party, (NRM).

Hon. Nsibambi was officially received and welcomed to NRM by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon. Annita Among and NRM Secretary General, Richard Todwng on Wednesday, 18th February, 2026. Nsibambi had earlier led a delegation of Opposition MPs who lost in the recent elections to a meeting with President Museveni at State House Entebbe.

Commenting on the event, Todong wrote on X thus;

“Today, we officially welcomed Hon. Yusuf Nsibambi into the @NRMOnline family. His wealth of experience, intellect, and commitment to national service are valuable assets to our shared ideology of patriotism, democracy, pan-Africanism and Socio-economic transformation. We are proud to have him on board as we continue building a stronger Uganda together.”

An official statement issued by the FDC President, Patrick Amuriat Oboi on 18th February, 2026 says whereas Nsibambi’s actions are disappointing, it is not surprising and does not weaken the Party’s resolve to in the struggle for democratic change in Uganda.

Amuriat says, the Party has for some time been observing concerning tendencies including his latest State House engagement with President Museveni without clearance from the Party and was considering disciplinary actions against Nsibambi.

“With his departure that internal disciplinary process is now overtaken by events and he falls under the jurisdiction of his new political home,” says Amuriat.

Amuriat reveals that consultations are already underway to fill the position of Chief Whip arguing that the Party will exercise its right to a replacement without delay.
