KAMPALA: Police Sniffer Dog Helps In Arrest of Three Shop Burglars

Police Sniffer dog being introduced to the scene of crime

The Police at Nansana Gganda Police Station has today 20 February 2026 arrested 03 suspects in connection with a robbery that occurred at the shop of Mbowa Joshua, a resident and businessman of Nansana Gganda.

 

According to a police statement dated 20th February, 2026, the suspects have been identified as Atwine, Mwange, and Namara.

Preliminary investigations indicate that in the morning hours of the incident, Mbowa Joshua went to open his shop and discovered that unknown assailants had cut through the iron sheets and ceiling board to gain entry. The suspects allegedly stole cash and fled to an unknown destination.

 

Mbowa immediately reported the incident to Gganda Police Station and requested the support of a Police K9 unit from the Kawaala K9 Unit.

 

A team of police officers together with a Police K9 , promptly responded to the scene.

The police sniffer dog, Pepper, was introduced to a well-preserved crime scene and successfully picked the scent trail. The dog tracked the scent for approximately one kilometre, leading officers to Atwine’s residence, where it zeroed in on Atwine and the two other suspects.

 

A search conducted at the premises led to the recovery of a pair of scissors suspected to have been used to cut iron sheets, a hammer and Cash.

 

Investigations further revealed that the three suspects reside and sleep in the same house.

 

The suspects, together with the recovered exhibits, are currently being held at Gganda Police Station as investigations continue.
