Sugarcane Loaded Truck Knocks One Dead in Luuka District

One person has died instantly and another rushed to Kiyunga Health Center IV for treatment after a fatal accident that occurred at Kalyowa village in Kyanvuma town council, Luuka district.

 

The accident happened on Friday 20th February 2026 after a lorry truck Tata loaded with sugarcane Registration number UBF419 from Kyanvuma heading to Busalamu knocked down a Bajaj motorcycle registration number UMA981CT that had been carrying bread.

 

The deceased has been identified as Meddie Nsibirano (18) and the causality is Lazaro Wandera both residents of Nabyoto village in Bukoova town council, Luuka district.

 

According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred as a result of over speeding by the truck driver who failed to negotiate a sharp corner hence knocking the duo.

 

By the time of filing this story, the body of the deceased had been taken to Kiyunga Health Center IV morgue for postmortem as investigations continue.

 

The chairperson Kyanvuma town council, Muziru Haruna confirmed the accident and appealed to drivers to refrain from reckless driving.

 

The OC Kalyowa police post, Kayima Jimmy confirmed the accident and cautioned drivers and motorcyclists against over speeding urging them to adhere to traffic rules.
