What appeared to be a Social Media invention has turned out to be true. ACP Emitu Ezekiel Ebapu has officially assumed office as the Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) Commander, taking over from CP Richard Ecega at a handover ceremony held today, Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at Central Police Station Kampala.
The function was presided over by AIGP Mwesigwa Frank, the Director of Operations.
In his remarks, AIGP Mwesigwa commended the outgoing Commander for his dedicated service and exemplary leadership throughout his tenure.
He noted that Kampala Metropolitan Police operates in one of the most sensitive and demanding policing environments in the country, requiring constant vigilance, resilience, and sound judgment.
He applauded CP Ecega for executing his responsibilities with commitment and professionalism, and urged him to carry the experience gained into his new office and continue to serve with distinction.
AIGP Mwesigwa emphasized that command is not merely a change of office, but a transition of responsibility, authority, and accountability.
He urged ACP Emitu to prioritize; Crime prevention through strengthened inter-agency collaboration, Firmness, restraint, and professionalism in operations.
He also emphasized enhanced discipline, supervision, and operational accountability, Strong partnerships with the community, stressing that public trust is a strategic asset.
He concluded by calling upon the new Commander to perform his duties diligently and professionally, guided by discipline and an unwavering commitment to public service.
Emitu was the Commandant of Kabalye Police Training School before this appointment.
