Mbale city has resettled over 1,000 street vendors at the Mbale central market as part of efforts to clear vendors from streets and ungazetted areas after their areas of operation were demolished.

Deputy Town Clerk, Jolly Hasoho told our reporter today Thursday, March 12, 2026 in an exclusive interview, that the city allocated unoccupied lockups and stalls at the central market to the vendors.

She notes that many street vendors have requested stall allocations since the exercise began, and the city is working to accommodate them in gazetted areas.

Hasoho denies allegations of soliciting dues from vendors, inviting anyone with evidence to identify the staff involved.

Resettled vendors; Hamuza Mudebo and Sarah Namataka welcome the move, citing harsh street conditions.
