Mbale Secondary School has set a new record by producing four sciences students with the maximum 20 points, in the 2025 Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) exams.

Jubilant scenes unfolded at Mbale Secondary School on Friday, 13th March, 2026 as administrators, teachers, parents, and students gathered to celebrate an outstanding performance in the 2025 Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education results.

Speaking to jubilant teachers, parents, and students during a school general assembly on Friday 13th at the school premises, Head teacher, Moses Buyera described the results as the institution’s best performance in many years, saying they reaffirm the school’s place among the country’s leading academic institutions.

“We had critics when our O-Level rankings dropped earlier, but these A-Level results show that Mbale SS is still the best,” Buyera said. “I challenge anyone to point to another school in this region with four students scoring 20 points.”

The top performers pursued combinations in Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB) and Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics (BCM).

Among the standout students was Innocent Gidudu, who scored 20 points in PCB. Overcome with emotion, he credited persistence and discipline for his success.

“It was not easy, but the effort was worth it,” he said. “I hope to pursue Medicine and Surgery at Makerere University.”

Another top performer, Karugana Kadhiri, who also scored 20 points in BCM, praised the teachers for their dedication.

“Our teachers pushed us to work hard and guided us throughout the journey,” he said. “Now I am ready to pursue my dream course of Medicine and Surgery.”

Nandera Gloria, who earned 19 points in BCM, attributed her success to teamwork and faith.

“At A-Level you can study very hard, but success also comes by the grace of God,” she said. “Group discussions played a big role in our performance.”

Buyera emphasized that Mbale SS continues to provide opportunities for bright students from modest backgrounds despite rising education costs across the country.

“Our students pay less than Shs3 million for all six terms of A-Level combined,” he explained. “In some schools, parents pay about Shs3.6 million for just one term. We are transforming the children of farmers, tailors and teachers into future doctors.”

Out of the 908 candidates, only one student failed to garner a point, while the arts department recorded a respectable 17 points as its top score.

Among the best performances, 4 students got 20 Points, 11 students with 19 Points, 10 students, 18 Points, and 42 students between 16–15 Points.
