The National Drug Authority has arrested Nsamba Swamad, an assistant nursing officer at Kassanda Health Centre IV in Kassanda District, for allegedly stealing and illegally possessing government medicines.

Nsamba Swamad was arrested on Monday, 16th March, 2026 in an intelligence led operation coordinated by NDA and Uganda Police.

NDA says more than 100,000 doses of ARVs, 15,000 aspirin tablets, and 400 HIV testing kits were recovered after being hidden in a pit latrine at a private clinic in Bukuya Trading Centre.

Commenting on the nature of place the drugs were kept, the NDA Spokesperson, Abiaz Rwamiri says the young man crossed every line.

“I have been involved several special operations against theft of government drugs but this young man crossed every line! Forget the volumes but where he had hidden the drugs; in one for the mostsmelly pit latrines, yes! A pit latrine of a very busy private clinic! That’s one of the dangers of stolen drugs, the conditions they are taken through before they are brought on the black market seriously compromises their efficacy, safety and quality!” says Abiaz.
