MAYUGE
The police in Mayuge registered an incident of death of 6 people, after the boat they were travelling in capsized. The incident occurred at 06:00pm near Bugoto landing site in Bukabooli Sub County on Tuesday.
There were 14 passengers out of which 08 were rescued.
ASP Michael Kasadha the Busoga East Regional Police Spokesperson has identified the deceased as Zalika Naiwumbwe, Gabunga Badiru, Mudoli Faruk, Awori Kisakye, Nabuzale Blessing and Rebecca.
The rescued victims were identified as Tibita Bosco, Waiswa Robert, Jamira Nandobya, Janet Namwebya, Nabirye Kamyufu, Kapere Moses, and two unidentified children.
The likely cause of the accident is overloading. The scene was visited by a team of police officers led by the district OC CID Mayuge.
The rescued victims were taken to Kigandalo Health Center IV for medical attention.
