The Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has today, Tuesday, 31st March, 2026 released Brig Gen Johnson Namanya from detention.

This was confirmed by Col Chris Magezi, the Deputy UPDF Spokesperson saying the release follows an amicable and friendly meeting in which the latter was cleared of all allegations leveled against him.

Col. Magezi says Brig Gen Namanya will resume his military duties accordingly.

Brig Gen Namanya was arrested on Friday, 27th March, 2026 and detained at Kasenyi military installation following directives issued by General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

The development signaled another wave of internal accountability measures within the military hierarchy.

Sources close to the matter indicated that the move was part of ongoing efforts to enforce stricter discipline and address performance or administrative lapses across various commands.

Brigadier General Namanya had only recently returned to full military duties.
