Old Girls of Bubulo Girls High School located at Manafwa Town Council in Manafwa District have launched a 20 million shilling fundraising drive to repair the school gate.

The school, one of the oldest and historical in the Bugisu region, was started during the colonial era.

Speaking to this Publication today, Saturday, April 4, 2026, Eunice Nekesa, an old girl leading the campaign, says their aim is to regain Bubulo Girls’ former glory.

She says that as old girls, they started by bringing national water to the school, which wasn’t there before, and are now rehabilitating the gate.

Nekesa adds that the gate rehabilitation costs 40 million shillings, and they’ve secured 20 million from various sources. They’re now fundraising for the remaining Shs20 million.

Irene Sarah Kharono, head teacher of Bubulo Girls, says they’re doing a car wash at the Sports Club in Senior quarters today, Saturday, as one activity to raise the funds.

She says on Monday next week, they will have a fundraising drive at the school in Manafwa to raise the money. The head teacher adds that improving the school’s facilities will attract more students and provide a safer environment for girls studying there.

Mariam Mukaye, the Mbale District Woman Member of Parliament and alumna, urged all old girls and the public to support the school to regain its lost glory.

Chris Matembo the area elected Member of Parliament representing Bubulo West constituency says they are going to do what it takes to revive the lost glory of the school.
