TORORO
Residents of Bison-Juba in Tororo Municipality on Wednesday, 15th April, 2026 vowed to stage a demonstration at the offices of the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) Tororo branch over what they call negligence by the power distribution company.
The community is demanding accountability and action from the power distribution company after enduring five long months of unresolved blackouts and inadequate responses to their complaints.
Peter Obbo, director of Vision Primary School in Juba, led the charge of disgruntled locals, passionately voicing their collective anger.
“We have continuously raised formal complaints, yet our cries seem to fall on deaf ears,” Obbo lamented.
He underscored the severe implications of the power outages, emphasizing how the prolonged darkness endangers the lives of residents, especially schoolchildren who depend on electricity for their studies and safety.
Elder Oketcho Odoi, criticized UEDCL for failing to meet the basic utility standards that urban dwellers expect. “In the modern world, reliable electricity is essential. We urge UEDCL to upgrade our power lines and replace the old transformer to restore stable electricity access,” Odoi stated.
In response to the mounting complaints, Albert Amula, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner of Tororo, addressed the public’s grievances, assuring locals that the necessary steps are being taken to resolve the power shortages.
“My office is fully aware of the challenges at hand, and we are pushing UEDCL to prioritize this matter and act with urgency,” Amula said.
As the planned demonstration looms, residents are hopeful that their united voice will finally be heard, prompting the necessary action from UEDCL to restore power to their community.
