BUSHENYI
Police has arrested a tenant and six others over the gruesome murder of the former CFO Bushenyi District, Asiimwe Abias.
According to SP Apollo Tayebwa, the Greater Bushenyi Region Police Spokesperson, the murder that has left the area in grief occurred in Ishaka Division, Bushenyi District.
The deceased, Asiimwe Abias, a 57-year-old businessman and resident of Kashenyi Ward was also former CFO, Bushenyi District before he was interdicted and later dismissed from service.
Tayebwa says that on 18th April 2026, the deceased was last seen at Kashenyi Trading Centre before proceeding to a nearby lodge which he owned. He did not return, prompting his relatives to report his disappearance to Kashenyi police the following day.
Police responded promptly and, in collaboration with residents, conducted a search that led to the recovery of a burnt and dismembered body believed to be that of the deceased from the ceiling of the lodge premises on one of his premises rented by the prime suspect.
Seven suspects, including the prime suspect, have been arrested to assist with ongoing investigations.
The scene of crime was examined and relevant exhibits were recovered and the body was conveyed to Kitagata Hospital Mortuary pending postmortem examination in accordance with the law.
Other sources, as reported by New Vision paper indicate that there had been a row between the deceased and the tenant, (prime suspect) over rent arrears.
