Police in Kawempe have apprehended the director of Spotless Kindergarten and Daycare in Kawanda, Kivulu, Nabweru Division, Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District, over the death of a 4year- old pupil who fell in a saucepan containing very hot tea.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokeswoman, Racheal Kawala confirmed the arrest, revealing that Elizabeth Aluku, the school director is currently freezing in police custody in connection with a rash and negligent act following an incident that occurred on April 10, 2026.
“It is alleged that early this month on April 10,2026, at Spotless Kindergarten and Day care School, the deceased who has been studying in middle class fell into a saucepan of hot tea and sustained severe burns that injured him on the lower body,” Afande Kawala revealed.
Kawala explained that unfortunately, the boy was pronounced dead on the 15th of this month at Kiruddu National Referral Hospital.
“Preliminary findings indicate that by the time of the incident, there was no teacher in the classroom, they had all gone to another room,” Kawala noted.
She has tasked all school administrators to mind about the safety of the children left in their care.
“Schools, try to secure your cooking areas. Our fire and rescue team will embark on inspecting kitchen areas in schools, but even for a school, why would you bring hot foods in the classrooms with even no one to attend to the young children,” Kawala wondered.
