The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health, Dr. Diana Atwiine, has launched the construction of a specialty hospital in Entebbe Municipality saying it will provide healthcare services to people with specialized cases of eye and nose surgery across the country and beyond.
The Permanent secretary noted that the 100-bed capacity hospital will focus on specialized areas like nose and eye surgery but along the way neurosurgery will be introduced to handle spinal cord surgery among other health complications.
Dr. Diana Atwiine revealed that the heath facility was named Emirates Specialty hospital Uganda because it’s a donation from the government of United Arab Emirates. She added that the construction of the health facility is being undertaken by the government of United Arab Emirates and it will be handed over to the government of Uganda in May 2027, when it’s complete.
During the Groundbreaking ceremony in Lunyo zone, Entebbe municipality on May 12, 2026, Dr. Diana Atwiine expressed optimism that the health facility will greatly help to reduce on the overwhelming number of eye patients at Mulago Eye clinic.
Dr. Diana Atwiine also expressed gratitude to the government of United Arab Emirates for offering to construct a specialized hospital in Uganda, which will later be handed over to the ministry of health upon completion in May 2027.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, United Arab Emirates, His Excellency Sheikh Shakboot Bin Nahyan, thanked the government of Uganda for donating 13 hectares of land for the specialized hospital. He added that the offer will go a long way in strengthening the bilateral ties between the government of Uganda and United Arab Emirates.
The project consultant for proposed health facility, Dr. Rajeev Mangottil, said the proposed health facility is one of the United Arab Emirates global programs, revealing that once complete it will be one of the best specialized hospitals in Africa.
