JUST IN! Minister Oboth-Oboth Speaks Out on CDF’s Speakership Endorsement

Jacob Oboth-Oboth has dismissed reports suggesting he has already secured backing in the race for Speaker of the 12th Parliament, saying he is not aware of any endorsement.

Oboth-Oboth’s comments come shortly after Muhoozi Kainerugaba publicly endorsed him for the influential parliamentary position, triggering fresh debate within political circles.

Muhoozi, who serves as Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, described the Defence Minister as a capable leader fit to guide Parliament during the new political term.

The endorsement immediately generated widespread discussion on social media and within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), where internal consultations over parliamentary leadership are understood to be ongoing.

However, speaking amid the growing speculation today, Friday, 15th May, Oboth-Oboth said he was unaware of any endorsement tied to the Speakership contest arguing that he isn’t on social media.

His response has been interpreted by some observers as an attempt to remain cautious while the ruling party continues internal discussions ahead of the election of parliamentary leaders.

The Speakership race is expected to attract significant political attention in the coming days as the newly sworn-in 12th Parliament begins organising its leadership structures.

Several senior politicians have already been linked to the position, although the NRM leadership has not yet officially announced its preferred candidates for Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
