‎The Member of Parliament for Bulambuli County, Emmanuel Biara  has announced that he has withdrawn his quest for the Position of Deputy Speaker of Parliament.

‎The announcement was made on Sunday afternoon, 17th May, 2026 at Inzu yabugisu head offices located at Malukhu Ward, Industrial City Division in Mbale City during a meeting with Umukuka wa Bugisu III, HRH Jude Mike Mudoma. ‎

‎‎After Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba endorsed Defense Minister Oboth Oboth for Speakership, Hon. Lydia Wanyoto Mutende has resorted to contest as the Deputy Speaker of Parliament. ‎ ‎

‎Wanyoto who attended the thanksgiving of Oboth Oboth in Mukono hinted that she won’t go against the party position by contesting as Speaker but rather contest for Deputy Speaker, a position that isn’t yet decided internally by the National Resistance Movement.

‎Bugisu Sub Region has been having two candidates with Lydia Wanyoto Mutende contesting for Speaker and Emmanuel Biara Wepukulu contesting for Deputy Speaker.

‎‎However, with the unfolding of events, Wepukulu has decided to pull out of the race in favor of Hon. Lydia Wanyoto Mutende. ‎

‎‎The efforts to harmonize the matter were spearheaded by Umukuuka III HRH Sir Jude Mike Mudoma who called the two to agree on one person. ‎

‎‎As of now , the former speaker is counted as completely out of the race after president Museveni asked her to not to contest as CID and IGG continue investigations into her alleged illicit accumulation of wealth and money laundering.
