MBALE CITY
Drivers operating under the Mbale United Trucks and Pickups Drivers Association have vowed to pressure Mbale City authorities to allocate them a lorry park to ease their operations and improve organization within the transport sector.
The resolution was made during the association’s leadership elections on Monday 18th – 05 2026 at City Mayors Gardens where new office bearers were voted into office to steer the group for the next two years.
Namukowa Hamaz was elected the new chairperson of the association, taking over from Abdullah Madoi, who was recently elected Mayor of Mbale Industrial City Division.
Speaking shortly after his election, Hamaz pledged to work hard during his two-year tenure and prioritize lobbying for the establishment of a Lorry Park in Mbale City.
He said the absence of a designated parking and loading area has continued to affect truck and pickup drivers, causing congestion and operational challenges in the city.
Hamaz promised to work tirelessly to unite members and improve the welfare of drivers under the association.
Other leaders elected include Namugenyi Fazali as Speaker, Nabenda Mustapha as Defense Secretary, Kizza Philip as Vice Chairperson, Mudaya Ali as Advisor, Wandwasi Rahim as Monitoring Officer, and Juma Maganta as Treasurer.
The newly elected leaders pledged to cooperate with city authorities and advocate for better working conditions for drivers in Mbale City.
