Government through the ministry of Water and Environment has embarked on a project to expand the Masese Water Treatment plant in Jinja City worth more than Shillings 15 billion to improve on water supply.

This was revealed by Badru Wandwasi, the General Manager National Water and Sewerage Corporation Jinja Service Area on Friday 22nd May, 2026 saying this will improve water supply in Busoga sub-region and parts of Buikwe district.

His revelation comes at a time when residents of Kanyogoga village in Jinja Northern division Jinja City threatened to strike over unreliable water supply.

During an interface with the press at National Water and Sewerage Corporation offices, Wandwasi acknowledged interrupted water supply in Jinja City and surrounding areas attributing it to power blackout, vandalism of water meters, illegal water connections, mechanical breakdown and low-capacity pumps compared to the increased population in the area.

“We still have pockets of water-stressed areas in places of High-altitude accounting for 15 % and customers in such areas have challenges but plans are underway with the expansion project going on to address the problem.” Emphasized Wandwasi.

Wandwasi further reveals that in the next financial year, NWSC will improve water supply through acquiring new pumps that will increase on the liters pumped to 80000 liters per hour up from the 62000 liters per hour currently.

He however implored the general public to avoid middle men who always con them of their money but always contact their offices for legal water connection.
