Police in Mityana are hunting for a 35-year- old man who allegedly strangled his estranged wife to death after she refused to reconcile with him.
The body of Sherina Namatovu, 23, a resident of Nakitolo Cell Ttanda Ward was discovered on Sunday morning, 24th May, 2026 in a cassava garden along the railway line in Ttamu Division.
According to police, Namatovu had recently left her husband who is a resident of Kasozo village in Zigoti Town Council Mityana District, Dube Nsubuga, following family misunderstandings and witnesses allege seeing Nsubuga trying to convince her to return during an introduction party at the deceased’s village on Saturday night.
The two left the venue together after midnight and police believe a scuffle ensued along the way, leading to Namatovu’s death.
There are also allegations that he on several occasions threatened to harm the deceased if she refused to go back to his home.
SSP Lameck Kigozi, Police spokesperson for Wamala Region said the body was taken to Mityana Hospital for a postmortem.
“A homicide team from Mityana police station visited the scene on Monday morning and documented it. There were abrasions around the neck of the deceased with the tongue protruding. The scene had visible signs of a scuffle with the lady’s nicker recovered 5 meters from the scene and a soiled half naked body in a legging.” Said SSP Kigozi
The suspect is still at large with efforts underway to have him apprehended and arraigned in court.
