The territorial Police in Mayuge have arrested one suspect on charges of stealing cattle with investigations under way over three others who were killed in a mob action.
The suspect has been identified as Mulindwa Frank, resident of Bugembe Town council in Jinja City.
According to ASP Kasadha Michael, Busoga East Regional spokesperson, initial reports suggest that on Tuesday 26th May 2026 at around 08:30 am occupants of Toyota Wish motor vehicle Reg. No. UBN 162U were allegedly seen untethering two heads of cattle at Buwolya village in Mayuge district belonging to Balitamuto Ibrahim.
On sighting them, he allegedly made an alarm, which attracted residents. Upon gathering, they intercepted the vehicle before setting it a blaze as the occupants fled.
The angry mob pursued the occupants, and intercepted them at Bufulubi A village from where they were assaulted with sticks and stones. One of them was lynched and burnt beyond recognition.
Three others escaped and sought medical attention at Peach medical center located in Musita town council, where two were picked and brought back to Bufulubi A village before killing them.
The Scene of crime was visited by a team of detectives. Bodies were taken to Jinja hospital mortuary for postmortem. Two heads of cattle recovered and exhibited.
The remaining suspect in cattle theft was arrested from Ayan drug shop where he was getting treatment from.
