Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has introduced Short Message Service (SMS) to enable parents/guardians and students to check on candidates’ registration status.
This was revealed by the Examinations body Principal Public Relations Officer, Jennifer Kalule on Friday, 29th May, 2026 while addressing the Media at the Uganda Media Centre, Kampala.
“The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has introduced an SMS service that enables candidates, parents, and guardians to verify the registration status of candidates,” reads UNEB statement on X.
To check a candidate’s registration status, users should send the candidate’s full index number via SMS to 6600.
UNEB encourages parents and guardians to take an active interest in the registration process and to verify the accuracy of all information submitted on behalf of their children.
To use the service, one must type “Reg”, leave a space, enter the candidate’s full index number, and send the message to 6600.
When reviewing the registers, teachers, parents, and candidates are required to carefully verify each learner’s bio-data, including: Index or personal number, correct spelling and order of names, date of birth, gender, attached photo,s ubjects or papers registered for UCE and UACE.Education
Where discrepancies are found, schools must formally communicate with Uneb within the stipulated time. For minor errors, schools should complete the amendment forms provided on the Uneb portal. At UCE and UACE levels, centres are required to submit formal request letters with supporting documents such as a national ID or birth certificate for corrections.
The Board further reminds learners, parents, and Heads of Examination Centres that the use of erasable pens is strictly prohibited in all UNEB examinations.
