Bedridden Col (Rtd) William Omaria is steadily recovering from Ruby’s Hospital, Kampala where he is receiving treatment.
The good news was broken by Flight Capt, Mike Mukula, a close friend of the ailing Colonel who visited him at his hospital bed on Friday, 12th June, 2026.
“I paid a courtesy visit to Col (Rtd) William Omaria at Ruby’s Hospital, Kampala, where he is recovering. It was a deeply humbling moment to spend time with one of Uganda’s distinguished patriots and statesmen,” says Mike Mukula on his X-Handle on Friday.
Col Omaria holds a unique place in our history as the first East African graduate of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. He served Uganda with distinction as Minister of Internal Affairs, Member of Parliament for Soroti County, and was among the gallant fighters of Kikosi Maalum who, alongside the Tanzania People’s Defence Force (TPDF), liberated Uganda in 1979.
He is also one of the only two surviving members of the Military Council under the UNLF Government, together with our Revolutionary Leader, H.E. Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
Mukula says Col Omaria was delighted by the visit and asked him to convey his gratitude, warm regards, and best wishes to President Museveni and his family.
“We wish him a speedy recovery,” says Mukula.
