KAMPALA
At least four suspects have been arraigned and charged before City Hall Magistrates court in connection with the death of Uganda Cranes Rugby Player and Stanbic Black Pirates forward, Sydney Gongodyo who succumbed to severe injuries last Friday, June 5, following an alleged mob attack in Nakawa division.
The four include; Obed Mugwisa (key suspect), Elly Mundoni, Joseph Owino, and Henry Kabugo.
The four appeared in court on June 12, 2026, before His worship Edgar Karakire, who charged them with murder contrary to Sections 171 and 172 of the Penal Code Act, Cap 128.
Court heard that on June 5, 2026, at Upper Naguru East Road in Kampala District, the accused persons acting together with others still at large and with malice aforethought, unlawfully caused the death of Sydney Gongodyo.
Prosecution Lawyer also informed court, that inquiries into the murder are still ongoing.
The accused were not allowed to take plea before the magistrate’s court, since it doesn’t have jurisdiction to try murder cases.
His worship Edgar Karakire remanded the accused persons until June 23, 2026, when their case will come up for mention.
Recently, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Afande Racheal Kawala told the press that the force had so far arrested 11 suspects in the murder of the late Rugby star player. Currently, 4 out of the 11 suspects have appeared in court pending appearance of the rest who are still detained in police custody.
