KAMPALA: Police Kills Armed Thug in Botched Robbery

Police have killed one armed thug in a botched robbery in the wee hours of today, Tuesday, June 23, 2026 in Ssemwogerere Zone, Nakawa Division, Kampala District.

 

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, SP Rachael Kawala, preliminary information indicates that at about 5:00am, a businessman together with his wife was walking along Mukasa Road when they were intercepted by three armed robbers. The suspects ordered the couple to stop and lie down, which they complied with.

 

She says the robbers proceeded to rob the businessman of his mobile phone and wallet at gunpoint. As they turned to demand the woman’s phone, police officers who were conducting motorcycle patrols in the area arrived at the scene.

 

Upon noticing the police presence, the suspects fled, abandoning a bag that contained suspected stolen property and a rifle.

 

Police officers immediately pursued the suspects, and during the operation, one unidentified male suspect, believed to be approximately 25 years old, was put out of action.

 

The following exhibits were recovered from the scene; one SAR rifle, a bayonet, 4 smartphones suspected to be stolen, two black shaving machines, 3 black jackets, an empty cartridge, a screwdriver, a pair of red canvas shoes and a black laptop bag.

 

The body of the deceased suspect was conveyed to Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem examination.
