Kisubi Hospital while announcing internal recognition of its Laboratory after being accredited by SANAS, revealed the six tests couples must have before committing themselves to the “Till death do us part” vows.
By being accredited by SANAS, Laboratory results from Kisubi hospital are now acceptable world over and the tests they do include these six that couples are encouraged to take before ‘Kukyala’ and marriage.
The first test is Blood Group and Rhesus factor.
This tests check blood compatibility and the Rhesus factor. This helps prevent complications like Rhesus incompatibility during pregnancy. In other words you can tell whether the baby is safe and prevent problems where the mother’s blood does not mix well with the baby’s.
The Rhesus (Rh) factor is an inherited protein found on the surface of red blood cells. It determines the “positive” or “negative” in your blood type (e.g., A-positive or O-negative).
If an Rh-negative mother is carrying an Rh-positive baby (inherited from the father), the mother’s body might develop antibodies against the baby’s blood if they mix—which can happen during delivery, trauma, or certain procedures.
The second test is HIV
This is important for early treatment and prevention of infection from one partner to another or to unborn babies.
The Third Test is Hepatitis B & C
This test helps avoid passing the infections through blood to a partner or to babies.
Sickle Cell Test
This helps health workers assess the risk of having children with sickle cell disease.
Syphilis Test
Syphilis if untreated can cause infertility, miscarriage and birth defects.
Fertility Assessment
This is done through semen analysis for men and ovulation and hormonal tests for women. Fertility Assessment is very important for obvious reasons.
