MASAKA: Police Boss Arrested for Fatally Shooting 2 Year -Old Child, Injuring Two Civilians

The Officer in Charge (OC) of Kyesiiga police post in Masaka district, Willy Ogwal, has been arrested for allegedly shooting dead a two-year-old child and injuring two other civilians while intervening in a fierce fight at a local bar.

 

The ugly incident occurred on the night of Sunday, June 28, 2026 and the police boss was arrested today, Monday, June 29, 2026 and detained at Kyanamukaka police station.

 

 

According to the Kyesiiga sub-county chairperson, Mikidad Lusiba, Ogwal lost cool as he responded to a  fight in a local bar in  Ndeeba trading center, Lwaggulwe parish, where a group of people had engaged suspected phone thugs in the local bar.

 

Ogwal is said to have been overwhelmed by the situation, prompting him to draw his gun and fire warning bullets, unfortunately he shot dead two year old Ashiraf Kiweewa, before injuring his mother, Aisha Kisakyamukama, and Gerald Kiweewa, who are nursing wounds at Kyanamukaka Health Center in Masaka district.

 

Police officers from Masaka Central police station later arrested Ogwal and took him into custody at Kyanamukaka Police Station.

 

The greater Masaka regional police spokesperson, Twaha Kasirye confirmed the arrest, noting that investigations into the shooting is underway.

 

“We just want to understand what really transpired at the scene, whether it is murder or whether it was in self-defence. We have already recorded statements from some eyewitnesses,” Afande Kasirye informed the press.
