A Police CCTV footage has emerged showing the exact moment a bus transporting learners from Mwebaze High School, Kakiri, collided with a train in Namumira trading centre, Mukono district, today, Friday, at around 6.34 am.

The accident left one student from Mwebaze High School dead and several others injured.

According to the footage captured at 6: 35: 17am at Namumira TC, a Traffic Police Officer is seen standing on the railway line and then walking towards the road where he raised his hand signaling incoming traffic to stop as the train was approaching the road crossing.

However, for reasons only known to the driver, he ignored the warning and attempted to pass ahead of the train leading to a crash. The Train knocked the rear part of the bus, which explains the low number of fatalities.

According to Rachael Kawala, the KMP Police Spokesperson, the accident that happened at Namumira–Bukasa Village, Kyetume Parish, Nakisunga Sub-county, along the Katosi Road in Mukono District left one female student dead.

The accident involved a train and Friendship Bus registration number UAU 123Q, transporting students of Mwebaza High School, Kakiri, to Jinja District for an educational trip.

“One female passenger died at the scene, while several students sustained injuries,” she said.

Kawala noted that Police officers, working alongside other emergency responders, are evacuating the injured to Mukono General Referral Hospital and other nearby health facilities for medical treatment.

“Police have secured the scene and commenced investigations to establish the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the crash” she said.

Kawala further noted that updates will be provided as more verified information becomes available
