Tragedy struck on Thursday afternoon, 9th July, 2026 along the busy Tororo-Mbale highway after a head-on collision claimed the life of a senior local government official.

The deceased has been identified as Emmanuel Obol aged 55, the Sub-County Chief of Akadot and a resident of Nyakesi C village, Nyangole Sub-county in Tororo District.

According to police, the crash involved two vehicles: Isuzu Forward, registration Number UBK 887W, and Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UDR 902C.

Police say the accident occurred when the Isuzu Forward, which was traveling from Tororo towards Mbale, attempted to overtake another vehicle moving in the same direction and in the process, the driver encroached onto the right lane and collided head-on with the motorcycle ridden by the deceased Sub County Chief who was coming from the opposite direction.

The impact left the motorcyclist with severe head injuries, and died on the spot.

“Our preliminary findings attribute the cause of the accident to careless overtaking by the motor vehicle UBK 887W Isuzu Forward,” Mugwe said.

The body of the deceased was conveyed to Tororo Municipal Mortuary pending a postmortem.

Both the Isuzu Forward and the motorcycle were towed to the CPS Tororo parking yard for inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles.

In a statement, IP Moses Johnson Mugwe, the Regional Public Relations Officer for Bukedi South Region, appealed to all road users to exercise caution.

“We urge all road users to exercise due care while using the roads and to respect all road safety precautions, signs and regulations,” he said.

He said anyone who contravenes the Traffic and Road Safety Act shall be arrested and prosecuted in courts of law accordingly.
