Police in Bukedi South Region are investigating a case of aggravated robbery that occurred on 26th July 2026 at around 6:06am in Amagoro Village, Busia District.
The incident was reported by Wafula Edwin, 23, a Mugwe by tribe and a student, resident of Amagoro Village, Mawero Parish, Buteba Sub-county in Busia District.
According to police, the victim was riding a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle registration number KMGX 137B from his home in Amagoro Village to St. Jude Catholic Church in Busia Town for early morning service.
While near Mawero Islamic Primary School along the Busia–Tororo Road, he met three suspects who were also riding a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle whose registration number was not known. The suspects stopped him.
They reportedly hit the victim several times on the head. One of the suspects then rode away with the victim’s motorcycle to an unknown destination, leaving behind two colleagues.
The victim raised an alarm which attracted residents. The two suspects who had remained behind fled to a nearby bush. They later surrendered themselves to a gold mining company in Mawero, Eastern Division, Busia Town. Police were alerted and arrested the two.
The arrested suspects have been identified as: Otieno Brian, 21, Luo by tribe, a casual worker and resident of Matayos Village, Busia County, Kenya, Otieno Kennedy, 20, Luo by tribe, resident of Bujumba Village, Butula Location, Busia County, Kenya.
Both were taken to Busia Central Police Station for further management. A case of aggravated robbery was registered vide SD REF and later CRB.
The scene was visited by the OC Station, the District CID Officer, and other police officers. It was documented by SOCO and statements were recorded from the suspects.
The victim was taken to Busia Health Centre IV for treatment and is reported to be stable.
During preliminary investigations, police established that the motorcycle used by the suspects is also suspected to have been stolen from Kenya. It is a red Bajaj Boxer registration number KMGY 830S and was recovered and parked at CPS Busia.
Police said all three suspects are Kenyan nationals. Efforts are underway to arrest the third suspect, identified as Anthony Kennedy Charles, also a Kenyan, who fled with the victim’s motorcycle, and to recover other exhibits.
ASP Johnson Moses Mugwe, the Regional Police PRO for Bukedi South, confirmed the arrests and said more details will be released as investigations continue.
