Shock has engulfed Namamera Village in Mudindi Parish, Busime Sub-County, Busia District after a married couple was found dead inside their home in what police believe was a murder-suicide that occurred in the night of 28th, July, 2026.
The deceased have been identified as Godfrey Okuku, 35, and his wife Recho Auma, 23, both residents of Namamera Village. The couple, who were parents to three children, were reportedly living together without any known problems.
According to Bukedi South Regional Police spokesperson, Moses Johnson Mugwe, the bodies were discovered in the morning hours of Tuesday inside their dwelling hut by residents who raised alarm.
Preliminary investigations indicate there was a violent altercation before the deaths.
Police recovered several exhibits from the scene, including an axe with suspected blood stains, a knife with suspected blood stains, new surgical blades, a damaged television, solar panel, a radio and other household items.
Mugwe said evidence suggests the couple had a disagreement and separated their bedding.
“It is alleged that while the wife was asleep, the husband hacked her on the head to death and thereafter hanged himself,” Mugwe stated.
The bodies of the two were retrieved and transported to Masafu Hospital Mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
Mugwe condemned acts of domestic violence and urged couples facing challenges to seek alternative ways of resolving disputes.
“We discourage acts of violence that culminate into loss of lives. People should embrace dialogue and seek other pathways for dispute resolution instead of resorting to violence,” he said.
Residents of Namamera Village described the incident as tragic and unprecedented, saying the couple was not known to be quarrelsome.
Police say investigations into the matter are ongoing to establish the full circumstances that led to the deaths.
