MASAKA
A total of 14 people have lost their lives in a fatal accident involving a Toyota Hiace taxi (UA 662AQ) and a Sino truck (UBS 040F) transporting sand, in Lwera Swamp, Kamunga Trading Centre, along the Kampala–Masaka Highway.
The Greater Masaka Region Police spokesman, Twaha Kasirye, said the accident occurred at around 11pm on Monday, August 3, 2026.
“Fourteen (14) people died on the spot, all from the taxi. Four injured victims, two from each vehicle, and are admitted at Masaka Regional Referral Hospital,” he said.
Kasirye revealed that the police visited the scene and investigations are underway as efforts to trace the fleeing driver are ongoing.
