Iganga Police has embarked on investigations into the murder by assault and suicide that occurred on Sunday 2nd August 2026 at approximately 8:45AM at Namusisi Village, Nawandala Sub- County, Iganga District.
The deceased persons have been identified as Nabirye Salama, 26 and Kisira Mutwalib, 2 years while the suspect was identified as Waako Jamiru Makoma, now also deceased.
It is alleged that Waako Jamiru Makoma had a domestic misunderstanding with his wife, Nabirye Salama, over property matters and during the altercation, the suspect reportedly attacked and stabbed Nabirye Salama and their 2-year-old child, Kisira Mutwalib, with a knife.
Thereafter, the suspect also stabbed himself in the stomach and died. The incident occurred inside their house at Namusisi Village.
ASP Kasadha Michael, the police spokesperson for Busoga East, said preliminary findings indicate that the disagreement stemmed from land that Nabirye had reportedly bought and registered in the names of their child, Kisira Mutwalib, without the knowledge of Waako Jamiru Makoma.
“The suspect had demanded to see the sales agreement, which led to the fight. It is further alleged that the two locked themselves inside the house during the incident.” Said ASP Kasadha.
The scene of crime was visited by a team of detectives led by the DPC Iganga and the murder weapon, a blood-stained knife, was recovered from the scene.
By the time of publishing this story, the bodies had been conveyed to Iganga Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examination.
Police urged members of the public to resolve domestic and family disputes amicably through elders, local leaders, and courts of law, and to seek help before situations escalate into violence.
