BUTALEJA
Heavy rains characterized by storm and hail stones that lasted for about 2 hours destroyed property, including houses, crops, animals and left three people injured and are currently in critical conditions at Butaleja health center 4.
The rain which largely poured at 3:00PM, on Wednesday, 5th August, 2026 affected the villages of Buwihula, and Bugisa, in Busaba town council; then Kanyenya, Bunghoma A and Bunghoma B villages in Busaba Sub County. It plucked roofs off the houses, broke trees and opened the houses for running water to enter.
Zabula Nankya, one of the victims says that it broke down their house, critically injuring Two (2) of her children.
Charles Hitubi, a 90 year old man was also rushed to hospital in critical condition soon after the rain.
Kenneth Mugoya, one of the victims at Kanyenya village, said that he lost his three goats and chicken, in addition to food stuff.
While Amis Mugole, a resident of Bunghoma A village, reported that his food stuff, bedding, and other household utensils were destroyed, doubting about his survival in the night.
Others who survived the wrath of rain on Wednesday, include: Joseph Wandera of Bunghoma A, Abed Mugole, of Bunghoma A, and Ivan Obbo.
By press time, several residents were debating on how it shall be if similar clouds form.
However, Godfrey Nasuga Musulemi, one of the Assistant Resident District Commissioners for Butaleja, pitted those who were affected by the nasty rain, promising to help lobby for their support from Kampala.
Nasuga, also reminded the residents that it’s common for rain to pour similarly, whenever its season changes. He, nonetheless, called for tree planting as a measure.
