Police in Nakaseke District have arrested 22 suspects in connection with alleged unlawful possession of wildlife species and suspected wildlife products.
According to ASP Sam Twiineamazima, the Savannah Region Police PRO, the arrests were made on August 17, 2026, at about 11:00pm during a snap checkpoint operation.
He says the Officers intercepted a white Toyota Hiace taxi, registration number UAV 523K, which was carrying hunting equipment, suspected wildlife products, and 22 occupants.
A number of items were recovered and secured as exhibits. These include hunting nets, spears, pangas, knives, roots and leaves of unidentified species, smoked and fresh suspected wild meat, three pairs of oribi horns, five bushbuck horns, and porcupine quills.
All 22 occupants in the vehicle were arrested and detained. Police say the suspects will be transferred to the relevant Uganda Wildlife Authority offices for further management and prosecution.
