The Jinja District Council meeting was on Tuesday 18th August 2026 adjourned by the speaker for failure by the councilors to keep time.
Jinja District Speaker, Simon Kibombo who spoke to this publication said it will not be business as usual when councilors repeatedly fail to keep time. This is the third time the council sitting is suspended since swearing in of new councilors
The council was set to commence at exactly 10 am however by that time less than ten councilors out of the twelve were present, less than the required quorum for a council meeting to take place.
“The communication was clear that the sitting was to commence at 10am however I reached when only a few councilors were present and added them more minutes up to 10.45 am and still there was no quorum.” Said Kibombo.
Kibombo said that since the government approved the budget for induction of incoming councilors, efforts should be made for its speedy implementation to train councilors on what should be done.
However, this did not go well with a section of councilors led by Namagera Town council councilor as well as the district vice chairperson Joseph Ikoona who attributed the confusion to infighting within the council members a habit he said should stop if Jinja district is to develop.
Jinja District chairperson, Moses Batwala Mbago called on the councilors to adhere to time as communicated by the speaker. He said the lack of quorum affects the people of Jinja.
