Police in Namutumba Recovers Stolen 3-Week-Old Baby Girl

The Police in Busoga East Region has recovered a 3-week-old baby girl, Namulwa Sherina, who was reported stolen on 21st August 2026 at Namulu Village, Kizuba Sub-county, Namutumba District alive and in good health.

 

On Thursday, 20th August 2026, a female suspect posing as a stranded traveler was accommodated for a night by one Mirembe Suzan at Namulu Village. The following day, the suspect disappeared with the complainant’s 3-week-old baby.

 

ASP Kasadha Micheal, Busoga East Regional spokesperson said a case of child stealing was registered at Namutumba Police Station vide CRB 289/2026 and immediate investigations and search commenced.

 

Through coordinated intelligence, and support from the community, the victim was traced and recovered on Monday 24th August 2026 from a hideout in Kisiro village, Bugobi Sub-county.

 

The victim was found to be in stable condition, and she has since been reunited with her biological mother and family. The suspect identified as Musenero Janet was arrested and detained at Namutumba CPS.

 

The case file is being processed to be submitted to the Resident State Attorney for perusal and legal advice.

 

Police strongly warned the public against the vice of child stealing and advised parents and guardians to be vigilant about strangers, especially those who seek accommodation while with infants.
