The Tororo District Returning Officer, Caroline Kincoco, has nominated candidates for the position of Tororo District Women Council Chairperson.
Among those nominated is Jescah Dambio of the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
Shortly after being declared duly nominated by Kincoco, Dambio promised to establish a women’s office at the district headquarters to act as a stepping stone for all women in the district.
She said she will work closely with the Woman Member of Parliament to register all women’s groups and activities to better address women’s welfare needs.
Dambio also pledged to form a District Women SACCO to economically transform women.
“Transformation is progressive. We need to educate our women on good use of income for household development,” she said.
Also nominated by the Returning Officer is Faith Akware Sofia.
Akware said her agenda is anchored on girl-child education, women empowerment projects, strengthening village saving groups, gender equality and fair competition for jobs for women.
She further pledged to initiate projects targeting widows and orphans, champion land ownership and inheritance rights for women and girls, and intensify community sensitization against domestic violence.
She called upon the newly elected sub-county chairpersons and other local leaders to support her candidature, saying she has the vision to take Tororo women to the next level.
Kincoco urged the candidates to conduct peaceful and issue-based campaigns in accordance with the Electoral Commission guidelines.
