Mbale City Authorities Suspend PTA Teachers in All Public Schools

MBALE CITY

Mbale City has announced the suspension of all teachers in government schools under Universal Education who are on PTA payroll.

This was revealed by Francis Kooku, the Mbale City Inspector of Schools, while speaking to our reporter on Monday, 14th September, 2026 ahead of third term opening.

According to Kooku, all government-aided schools with Universal Secondary Education will not have teachers on the PTA payroll until further notice.

He says as a city, they came up with this resolution after schools kept claiming that charging school fees enables them to pay teachers who are not on the government payroll, yet the President stopped the payment of any money in government-aided schools.

James Kutosi, the Mbale City Public Relations Officer, while speaking to our reporter today, Tuesday, said they are implementing the government directive that no teacher on the PTA payroll will be found teaching in public schools with Universal Education.

He says education at all government aided schools with universal education is going to be totally free after suspending these teachers.

Kutosi said it is true that as a city they will be affected due to the high student-to-teacher ratio since teachers are not enough, but there is nothing they can do as a city since it is a directive from the Ministry of Education.
