Bugisu is mourning an icon, a selfless servant who dedicated his life to the people with remarkable humanity, humility, and dignity.

Mzee Enock Musundi passed away on 11th September 2026 at the age of 95 and will be laid to rest on Saturday, 19th September 2026.

He was a distinguished coffee farmer, founding President of the Bugisu Cooperative Union (BCU), politician, clan leader, father, and mentor to generations. Throughout his life, he dedicated himself to serving his community and inspiring those around him.

The passing of Mzee Enock Musundi leaves a profound void in Bugisu and beyond. He was more than a leader; he was a servant, a builder, a mentor, and a man whose life was defined by sacrifice and commitment to the greater good.

His legacy is one that will be difficult to match. During his tenure at the Bugisu Cooperative Union (BCU), Mzee Musundi established structures and institutions that continue to stand today as a testament to his vision, hard work, and dedication. He understood that true leadership was not about personal enrichment, but about building something that would benefit generations to come.

Mzee Musundi sacrificed greatly for Bugisu. At a time when many leaders would have prioritised personal advancement, he chose to invest in the community. He dedicated his energy and resources to building institutions and creating opportunities for others, often putting the needs of the people before his own.

His story is both inspiring and humbling. He built flats for BCU, strengthening the Union’s foundation, yet returned home to live modestly in a grass-thatched house. He acquired vehicles for the Union to facilitate its operations, yet he himself did not return home with even a bicycle. He supported the education of many through scholarships, while struggling to provide the same opportunities for his own family.

What a man. What a servant. What a leader.

His life raises an important question for our generation: How many leaders today are willing to put the development of their communities ahead of their own personal growth and comfort?

Mzee Musundi’s greatest wealth was not what he owned, but what he built, the lives he touched, and the opportunities he created for others. His legacy reminds us that leadership is ultimately measured not by what we accumulate for ourselves, but by what we leave behind for those who come after us.

There is so much more that can be said about his life and service. But one thing is certain: we were blessed and fortunate to have Mzee Enock Musundi among us, to witness his leadership, to learn from him, and to share in his remarkable journey.

As Bugisu mourns, may we also celebrate a life well lived, a life of service, sacrifice, humility, and unwavering commitment to the community.

May his legacy continue to inspire leaders to serve with integrity, humanity, and selflessness.

Rest in eternal peace, Mzee Enock Musundi.

Your service was a gift to Bugisu. Your legacy will live on.

Salamia Mungu.
