BUDUDA
Seven Bududa district officials arrested during Local Government Minister Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi’s anti-corruption drive have been released on police bond after spending six days in detention.
The officials were held at Bududa Central Police Station following the minister’s directive during his anti-corruption tour of the district last Thursday.
The officials who were released on Wednesday, 23rd September, 2026 are: David Muwoya Wekhoola- acting district education officer, Beatrice Wakooli- district community development officer, Hashim Wafula- district commercial officer and Grace Nabutasale- district internal auditor.
Others are; Naume Muganwa-district inspector of schools, Bernard Madoi- assistant Resident District Commissioner (RDC) and Hassan Mangobe, assistant RDC.
They were arrested over allegations including abuse of office, alleged mismanagement of government funds and other administrative irregularities.
Counsel Samuel Sebikaari, a lawyer attached to the Anti-Corruption Unit, confirmed that the officials had been released on police bond and interdicted pending further investigations.
Sebikaari said they must remain available to investigators whenever required and warned that their bond could be cancelled if they fail to report as directed or abscond.
He added that the Anti-Corruption Unit team would return to Bududa next week to continue investigations into the allegations.
Bududa Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Max Martin Mukula urged the officials to remain available and keep their phones accessible to investigators whenever required.
Mukula also advised them not to panic, noting that the allegations against them may not necessarily be proven.
He said officials found to have committed no wrongdoing would have nothing to fear.
The latest development brings to 21 the number of Bududa district officials who have been interdicted in connection with the ongoing investigations into alleged corruption and administrative irregularities.
The investigations are continuing across several departments as authorities seek to establish the circumstances surrounding the allegations.
