BUSIA
Police in Busia District are investigating a case of murder by stabbing in which a 64-year-old law enforcement officer of Busia Municipality was killed while on duty.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, October 22, 2026, at around 11:30 AM in Western Division, Busia Municipality.
The deceased has been identified as Efubo Tusker Master, 64, a law enforcement officer attached to Busia Municipality.
According to the Bukedi South Regional Police Spokesperson, Moses Johnson Mugwe, the deceased and his colleague, Efumbi Aggrey, both law enforcement officers, were deployed by Revenue Officer Susan Nabwire to carry out an operation around the park area to clear people from the streets, covering Mawero East A and North C.
Mugwe said that during the operation at Arubaine A Village, Mawero East A Ward along Tororo Road, the deceased arrested a hawker who was carrying a white bucket containing merchandise.
The hawker became violent, but was separated by his colleague Efumbi Aggrey and left the scene.
Shortly afterwards, the suspect returned armed with a knife and stabbed the deceased. When his colleague tried to pursue the suspect, members of the public started stoning him, which discouraged him from continuing the chase.
The suspect then disappeared through the corridors of Majengo Road and is currently at large.
The deceased was rushed to Busia Health Centre IV by two good Samaritans but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Police have filled Forms 48A and 48B and handed them over to Busia Health Centre IV pending a postmortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing to trace and arrest the suspect.
