A team from State House under the Emyooga program, led by National Coordinator, Rita Namuwenge, has held a preparatory meeting with Moroto District leaders ahead of the Minister’s visit next week.

The meeting held on Friday morning, 23rd October, 2026, follows President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s directive to key institutions to facilitate socio-economic transformation in the Karamoja sub-region through the Emyooga program.

The directive was issued through the Minister in charge of Microfinance, who has instructed the Ministry of Finance, the Microfinance Support Centre, and the State House Emyooga Coordination and Monitoring Unit to go to Karamoja to drive the transformation process.

Speaking to Moroto District leaders during the preparatory meeting held at the district headquarters, Namuwenge said they expect State Minister for Microfinance, Harshidah Kuteesa Musherure, to visit the region on Tuesday and Wednesday next week.

She said the purpose of the Minister’s visit is to promote social transformation and assess the progress of Emyooga in the Karamoja sub-region.

Namuwenge said the Minister will visit and inspect a few selected Emyooga SACCOs in different districts across the region to see how they are performing.

She added that the Minister will later hold a baraza at Naitakwae playground with locals to find ways of improving the program such that the region can be uplifted from poverty.

“Karamoja is one of the regions in the country that is highly affected by poverty, and the government wants to use this program to improve the livelihoods of the people,” Rita said.

Benon Kwikiriza, the Moroto Resident District Commissioner, said they will mobilize people through local leaders to turn up in large numbers to hear the Minister’s message.

He said the baraza meeting will help to improve money recovery under Emyooga program, which has been poor.
