Police in the Aswa West River Region recovered a stolen AK47 rifle and 62 rounds of ammunition from the home of the late Daniel Komakech, a suspected gang leader. The recovery took place on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at Barolemo Village in Paicho Sub-county, Gulu District.

The deceased gang leader’s brother, Richard Otim, found the weapon while clearing bushes around Komakech’s home. It was wrapped in a white polythene bag and hidden under a tree.

The firearm (serial number UG POL 48014235-15938) was heavily rusted but recognizable. Police recovered it alongside two magazines containing 26 and 6 rounds of ammunition.

The gun had been stolen on May 11, 2026, from Police Constable Beatrice Awor at Lalogi Police Station in Omoro District after she was attacked while asleep.

Daniel Komakech was shot dead by security personnel on June 19, 2026, after resisting arrest. He was linked to the firearm theft and multiple aggravated robberies across the Acholi Sub-region.

His accomplices Oscar Ojok (alleged mastermind) and Vincent Opiro were arrested on June 19, 2026. They face charges of aggravated robbery and murder before the Army Court Martial.
