BUDUDA
Health Centers IIIs in Bududa district are facing challenges of few numbers of beds which has forced expectant mothers to deliver from the floor.
The affected health centers are Bufuma health center III located in Bufuma Sub County, Bushiyi health center III Bushiyi Sub County, and Bumayoka health center III Bumayoka Sub County.
According to David Kamoti, the LCV chairperson of Bududa district, those affected health centers each have two to five beds.
He adds that most of the expectant mothers who come for delivery face challenges of where to sleep and deliver from.
Emma Wanasolo the in charge of Bufuma health center III says that he gets 7 to 10 mothers daily who come to deliver but they cannot be accommodated by the 4 beds the facility has but even those four are damaged with no mattresses.
He adds that a mother delivering on the floor put her life and the baby at risk of getting diseases that most people are not aware of.
This has forced Isaac Modoi the area Member of Parliament to donate 22 beds and 22 mattresses to Bufuma Health Center III and Bushiyi Health Center III on 24th May, 2023.
While delivering the beds to the two health centers, Modoi said that the lack of beds in health centers at his Lutsekhe constituency made him lobby for these beds and mattresses from the Ministry of Health.
Modoi says that he is going to lobby for more beds such that all health centers with few beds can be equipped in his constituency.
He cautioned them against misusing these properties and put them in labor wards such that the expectant mothers who come for delivery can sleep there.
David Mayeku and Michael Mutsetse, all residents of the Bufuma sub county expressed their happiness with the beds saying this is going to improve on service delivery at their health centers.
They urged the government to equip the remaining health centres in the district with more bed beds and health workers since it’s still a problem.
Imelda Tumuhairwe, the Bududa district health officer admitted the bed crisis at health center IIIs and in health center IVs.
She adds that they have informed the ministry of health and are waiting for its response.
