Church leaders in Namisindea district have come out to castigate wrong elements hiding under churches to commit heinous acts in society.
Speaking today, 25th May, 2023, Bigala Edward, the Chairperson of Namisindwa Pastors’ Fellowship, a body that brings together all born-again church leaders warned Christians against impostors in the names of pastors and bishops.
Bigala says the name of the church is being tainted by the wrong elements hiding in churches as leaders but instead conning people.
Bigala, also a pastor of Magale United Christian Church, explains that in a space of two weeks, many church leaders have been dragged to police over crimes ranging from sexual offenses, theft especially of cattle, among others.
Fred Wetekhela, a founder of Christian Bible Mission churches, says there is a need to regulate worshipping centers by screening church leaders, adding that pastors should embrace economic activities like agriculture instead of depending on Christians for survival.
John Kisaka, a pastor and church leader of Umoja Orphans, says leaders in the church are supposed to live an exemplary life. Kisaka is worried that the church has been attacked by thugs, rapists, and conmen calling for strict regulations.
Bwayo Emma, the Namisindwa Male Youth Councilor says bad elements are hiding under the church targeting youth and recruiting them into acts like homosexuality, joining rebel groups since they know their weaknesses. He asked Christians to report wrong pastors to authorities.
Julie Namaara Solome, the Deputy Namisindwa District Resident District Commissioner, confirmed the widespread criminality among church leaders in the district.
Namaara says they have organized a meeting with all pastors to discuss a way forward.
